Trevali has started to test technology that increases orebody knowledge at Trevali’s 100%-owned Caribou Mine. The technology is developed by DataCloud Inc. – a Seattle-based company developing orebody monitoring technology. Collaborating with DataCloud is yet another step in Trevali's mission to be the world’s most sustainable underground mining company.

Says Travali's CTO Derek du Preez, "We are very excited to deploy DataCloud’s innovative orebody knowledge platform MinePortal, and further custom developed applications. This is an exciting time for Caribou as the nearby Restigouche Project is being considered as a supplemental ore source to the Caribou mill."

Trevali chose DataCloud because of our visionary approach to subsurface evaluations – built upon proven concepts widely used in the oil and gas industry. DataCloud is well-known in the mining industry for E&P subsurface evaluation, seismic-while-drilling techniques and drill & blast operations. Our cloud-based software – currently in use at other surface mining organizations -- will connect and analyze the geological data across Caribou’s operation (a new method to underground mining) and be the backbone for sharing orebody knowledge. Utilizing the latest technology in mining will be key to Caribou’s emergence as an efficient, hi-tech Canadian underground mine. Trevali aims to track all stages across the production cycle and learn and improve mine-to-mill performance. Further benefits will be realized by automating the collection of operational data and delivering real-time reporting.

DataCloud’s platform is expected to put superior orebody knowledge in the hands of the Caribou Mine planning team, to make operational improvements that will lead to increased mill throughput, better grade control, improved cycle times, and higher recovery. As a mining company of the future, new technology will help Trevali deliver cost savings and increase productivity. Following a successful trial period at Caribou, Trevali may look to add further capabilities or expand the technologies to its other global operations.

An antiquated perception of the sector overshadows our society's fierce reliance on mining. My grandmother worked for Anadarko and was a Desk and Derrick Club member. Communicating about the extraction industry is in my roots. The world has changed significantly since my Mimi was present. Mining's progress will soar if we all holistically understand and fully participate in the industry. I use transparent communication methods and prioritizes public education. My varied background in digital marketing and communications supports my roles throughout the sector, including Director of Marketing and Business Development at DataCloud and Director of Communications at Mining2Me.
