Research by Pitcher Partners earlier this year found that 68 per cent of survey respondents predicted that mergers and acquisitions (M&A) will exceed last year’s $52.4 billion in deals in 2019. With less than five months until the end of this year, sentiment from industry seems to concur; more JVs and alliances are also being formed within the mid-market in 2019, which was also the area of the market responsible for the most deals in 2018 with 75 last year, 23 large cap and 14 small cap.

So, what are majors and mid-tiers looking for from juniors and explorers when it comes to strategic partnerships and alliances? Will the M&A trends continue, and if so, what impact will these have across the entire mining supply chain?
